Yantra calculator
Your yantra, drawn from your birth date
Enter a birth date. Your magic square gives the drawing its numbers, its petals and its triangles, and every one of its ten lines adds up to the same number.
What is a yantra?
The word comes from Sanskrit: “yam”, to support, and “trana”, freedom. A yantra is a diagram made to hold the eyes and the mind still.
There are two families. Pictorial yantras are drawn with gates, lotus petals, interlocking triangles and a central point, the bindu. Numerological yantras are magic squares, grids of numbers in which every row, column and diagonal has the same sum.
Your yantra joins both: the sixteen numbers of your birth square run around the outer ring, and your day, month and destiny number shape the lotus and the triangles inside.
The 20-second practice
Trataka, resting the gaze on a yantra, is how yantras have always been used. The app keeps it small enough to do every day.
- Press and hold your yantra.
- Breathe in for four seconds, out for four, while the ring fills.
- Let go when you need to; the ring waits for you.
- Twenty seconds later your lamp for the day is lit.
Rest your gaze on the dot at the centre, the bindu. Breathe slowly. When the mind wanders, return to the bindu without judging yourself.
